Hey everyone!
I just finished my first week with YWAM LA, doing my School of Ministry Development (SOMD). I only have 11 weeks left! HE HE :)
So, as most of you know, I left last Friday to come down here to do my SOMD. I arrived at the Orange County airport early Friday morning, where my boyfriend, Jake, picked me up and we spent the day at Disneyland. I was dead tired by the end of the night, but Jake's wonderful friend let me stay in her dorm room with her. The next day, Jake and I spent time together at the beach before driving the hour up to my new home in Lake View Terrace. We arrived at the base, where I met my roommate,Melissa (she's wonderful!!), moved in, got a short tour around, and started unpacking. The base is really beautiful. I hope to have some pictures up soon, so you can see my new home! :)
Saturday I hung out with my roommate, met some of the girls who live in the trailer with me, and slept. The whole weekend was busy and I was dead that night. Sunday morning I was able to sleep in and go to brunch at 10:30, where I met more new people in my school and around the base. At 6:00 that night, I had welcome dinner and met the rest of the people in my school. There are 23 of us total doing our SOMD here in LA.
Monday was busy, starting with a base meeting and class introductions. It was a long day, with class sessions all day long, and lots of meeting new people and getting to know each other. Tuesday was much the same. We started in on watching a lecture series called the Passion Series, told by an amazing man named Floyd McClung, (a big-wig in YWAM). We've been watching those all week long, and getting our passions and values really rocked by God. Compared to my DTS in Montana though, this school is much more lax, but more spiritually challenging because of the many heart things we're dealing with, even in this first week. I'm really excited for all that is to come in the next 11 weeks of this school, and I can't wait to find out what God has planned for me when it's over.
Tonight (Friday) is my night off, although we have an optional worship night tonight at 8, which I'm planning on attending. Tomorrow will be a pretty calm day compared to this crazy week, and I'm excited to attend church on Sunday at the Mosaic, the church I went to on SMI my Sr. year.
I'm so excited for this SOMD. Thank you all so much for praying for me to get into YWAM again, and for the continued prayer for finances and my well-being. I still need to raise $2000 more for this school. I have until week 8 to get all my money in, and I know that God is forever faithful, so I have no doubt that my school fees will be payed off on time. I would like to ask for your continued support both in prayer and financial support for me. If you feel God tugging on your heart to partner with me in my ministry, I ask that you pray faithfully, asking God for how much He wants you to give. If you do not feel God calling you to give, I would ask that you continue to pray for me during this time, for finances as well as me getting everything I can out of this school. I feel a call to the nations and the people of the world, and I long to serve them. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.
If you would like to give, you can send a check to either me here at YWAM, or to my parents. My mom is able to put a check into my bank account, and I can write a check of my own to YWAM. I don't have access to a bank here on base, nor a car to get around town, so if you send a check here, make it out to YWAM LA with a note saying it's for Kylie's SOMD. Thank you!!
For those of you who were wondering about tax deductions for YWAM students, I copied and pasted this information from the YWAM website (ywam.org). If you have any other questions, please let me know and I'll get back to you as soon as possible, even if I have to search far and wide for the answer. :)
For U.S. taxpayers, donations given through this web site (ywam.org) are usually tax deductible. Please note, however, that donations toward educational / tuition expenses (i.e., toward covering training expenses of a person attending a YWAM school) are NOT tax deductible. Therefore, if you would like to assist a person participating in a YWAM school, we advise that you give your assistance to that person directly. If you send it to the YWAM location where that person will be attending a YWAM school, or if you choose to give such monetary gift through this website using your Visa or MasterCard, it will not qualify as a tax-deductible gift.
So, basically, because I'm doing a school at present, all money given to me is considered a gift, thus... not tax deductible. It is on my heart to continue on staff after this school is through, and to my knowledge, if you'd like to contribute then, donations are tax deductible. But because I'm a student in a school, they don't give tax deductions for students. I'll let you know if I ever get on staff, and at which point, I'll need additional support. But I'll not get ahead of myself. Any gift toward my school at present would be greatly appreciated, and I know God will bless you tremendously.
Again, thank you for praying and for giving. You all are truly a blessing to me and an encouragement in my life. I love you all! See you at Thanksgiving! :)
In His arms,
Ky
